African Sumac Soil Requirements
Although the African Sumac can live in almost any soil, for the best effect/environment, the tree should be placed in a soil mixture "consisting of 2 parts peat moss to 1 part loam to 2 parts coarse sand and 1 cup of ground limestone for each 0.01 cu yards of soil mix" (Reference Source 6). The resulting soil should have a pH between 6.6 and 8.5. Throughout the season, the sumac should also be fertilized once a month with a balanced fertilizer. If the tree is grown with several others, they should be a distance of 6-8 feet apart. As said previously, the sumac should be watered once every one or two weeks and given enough time to allow the soil to completely dry.
